The differences between fire-resistant windows and ordinary windows are as follows:
1. Differences in glass
There are many types of glass used in ordinary windows, and there are not too strict requirements for glass. Better ones may use tempered glass. However, fire-resistant windows need to use tempered glass. Moreover, since ordinary windows’ glass has no fire-resistant requirements, there are no fire-resistant marks. In contrast, fire-resistant windows’ glass needs to pass various strict fire tests and meet the relevant standards for fire-resistant windows. Due to the special fire-resistant requirements for fire-resistant windows’ glass, its light transmittance is slightly worse than that of ordinary windows. However, some regions have explicitly stipulated that the light transmittance of fire-resistant windows’ glass cannot be less than 75 percent of that of ordinary windows’ glass.
2. Differences in materials
The materials of ordinary windows are roughly divided into uPVC, aluminum alloy, wood, etc. Although the frame materials of fire-resistant windows are also mostly these, most fire-resistant windows still use steel materials. Moreover, according to different levels, the fire resistance requirements for fire-resistant windows’ materials are different, and the relevant regulations on materials also vary. Because fire-resistant windows are strictly required to play a role in fire prevention and smoke isolation during a fire, their frames and fire-resistant and smoke-isolating functions must be filled with fire-resistant materials. Ordinary windows do not have these special requirements and relevant regulations.
3. Differences in price
Fire-resistant windows also have all the functions of ordinary windows, and they also have special fire-resistant requirements. Both the production technology and material requirements are stricter than those of ordinary windows. Moreover, the installation requirements for fire-resistant windows are also stricter. Therefore, in terms of cost, fire-resistant windows are higher than ordinary windows. It is only natural that their prices are higher than those of ordinary windows.
4. In terms of price, the price of steel fire-resistant windows for buildings is higher than that of ordinary aluminum alloy windows.
